COVID UPDATE – DECEMBER 3RD
Latest Update from Irish Squash
Irish Squash submitted an appeal to Sport Ireland following the publication of the restrictions permissible in Level 3. We repeated our request to allow 2 players to train on court using socially distanced routines in Level 3. In our opinion, solo squash is the appropriate restriction to be applied in Level 4 only. Our submission was considered by the Sport Ireland Expert Group this morning. They have agreed to allow 2 members of the same household to train/play together during Level 3 restrictions. Irish Squash will make a submission to Minister Chambers regarding the Framework for Sport in 2021. A webinar will be hosted on Monday 7th December to discuss this issue and we will be in attendance.
Irish Squash continues to actively engage on a frequent basis with Sport Ireland and the Federation of Irish Sport in order to ensure that the voice and concerns of our sport are heard. We welcome the initiatives to work with NGBs for other indoor sports to ensure that the particular needs of this sector are addressed.
We welcome the additional financial support from Sport Ireland at this time. We will announce plans for supporting coaches and players at all levels within the next few days, now that our clubs can reopen safely. Please continue to observe the relevant protective measures in place in your squash club. Further news and updates to follow on the Irish Squash website.
